Its name is complex, as it comes from the words “Mana” and “Gouliasma” , which means the mud deposited by the waters of a river when it overflows, creating fertile and productive fields.
Its inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing. They produce citrus fruits, virgin olive oil, clover and corn. In recent years, the younger people have been involved in tourism.
Also active in the village is the Folklore Environmental Association of Managoulis, which is based in the Folklore Museum, which has been created in the village!
The parish church is dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helen, while the chapel of Panagia Faneromeni – Zoodochos Source, is built on the neighboring hill, on the site of an ancient temple of Apollo. In the courtyard of the temple there are remains of an ancient grove of olive trees.
East of Panagia Faneromeni, in the place Gouvos, the ancient city of ‘Erythron’ mentioned by Thucydides is presumed.
The visitor who will find himself in Managouli, just a few minutes from the historic town of Nafpaktos, can enjoy the peace and relaxation in this small village. He comes in contact with nature and with the locals, who have not been alienated by the rhythms of modern life, but remain simple and polite in every communication.
There are no hotels in the village , but only a few holiday rentals , such as Elia House, so you experience in practice the authentic Greek hospitality of the countryside. You can walk along the narrow streets with the stone two-storey houses, visit the church or the Folklore Museum or take a walk on the plain of Mornos, among the olive trees and clover fields.

In the summers, next to the square, 30 meters south, the well-known “Bourboulas” has been operating for decades. Harikleia and George, with their local pork souvlaki, their own wine and the rustic salad, with raw materials from their garden, create a setting from another era.
In Agios Polykarpos, 1 km west of Managoulis, don’t forget to visit ”Karadima” , another tavern that operates all year round and that people have trusted for decades , with many grilled and local meats, traditional pies from our region and many more dishes.
